Obesity and its metabolic consequences affect over a million people in Switzerland. During specialist training you usually encounter them as a secondary diagnosis. With us, they are the specialty.
We're changing that.
Who we are
ViaSlim is Switzerland's first hybrid centre for obesity and metabolic medicine and an accredited obesity centre with locations in Zurich, Basel-Binningen and Bern. We treat obesity and its comorbidities according to guidelines and a chronic care model: structured, data-driven, over months and years rather than single consultations.
We hold the training accreditation in General Internal Medicine, category C. You can complete part of your specialist training with us while going deep into a field that hardly features in classic rotations.
Your role: learning from the whole course of treatment
You look after your own patients under specialist supervision, on site in Zurich (Asylstrasse 104) and Basel-Binningen as well as via telemedicine. You don't see the snapshot of a single consultation but the entire course of treatment: indication, titration, lab trends, plateaus, relapses and successes.
- On site: Initial consultations, physical examinations, follow-ups, injection training together with the Care Team.
- Telemedicine: Care between practice appointments by video and via the platform, titration and side-effect management.
- Supervision: Daily case discussion with specialists, structured teaching, weekly interdisciplinary board.
What you'll actually learn
- Pharmacological obesity therapy Indication, titration and long-term management of GLP-1 and dual agonists, including side-effect management and switching therapies.
- Metabolic comorbidities Prediabetes and type 2 diabetes, dyslipidaemia, MASLD, sleep apnoea, PCOS and hypogonadism in their interplay with weight.
- Chronic care in practice Structured follow-up, lab interpretation, BIA and body composition, managing plateaus and adherence.
- Interdisciplinary working Shared treatment pathway with nutrition counselling, psychologists, physiotherapy and APN. You learn to steer a team, not just consult.
- Research, if you want Contributing to our real-world evidence research. We publish peer-reviewed and welcome your contribution.
What you bring
- Swiss federal medical diploma or recognised medical degree (MEBEKO) and at least one year of clinical specialist training
- Interest in internal medicine, endocrinology or metabolic medicine
- Willingness to work practice days in Zurich and Basel-Binningen
- Affinity for digital medicine and structured documentation
- Clear, empathetic communication with people living with a stigmatised disease
- Fluent German (C1), good English
An advantage: French or Italian. Experience in general practice, diabetology or nutritional medicine. Scientific interest.
What awaits you
- Accredited specialist training time in General Internal Medicine, category C
- Focused medicine: one disease in depth instead of twenty at fifteen-minute intervals
- Supervision on an equal footing by Dr. med. Norbert Niebuhr and the specialist team
- Hybrid working model: practice days in Zurich and Basel, telemedicine days you can plan
- Relief from administration through the Care Team and the platform
- Further training budget, structured onboarding, 25 days of holiday
- Perspective: taking on a specialist post once you've obtained your title
